Peter French Round Barn
Peter French Round Barn
The Peter French Round Barn is one of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department’s newest historic properties and one of the most remote and fragile of Oregon’s cultural resources. Built around 1880 by rancher Peter French, this unusual barn was used for breaking and exercising horses during the harsh southeastern Oregon winters. It is open to over 15,000 visitors annually and, because of recent restoration work, it will continue to be accessible for public use.

Oregon State Parks Trust helped to raise and distribute $28,000 to preserve the historic integrity of the Pete French Round Barn, help improve the fencing around the structure, make it ADA accessible and develop an interpretive plan for the many visitors.
